About me

I don’t know, what about me? I’m Louie, just a guy who grew up without any DIY or woodworking experience. My father and my uncle, they didn’t work with their hands and so couldn’t teach me handy man skills. I work a desk job at an office downtown where I spend my days looking at code, sending emails, sitting in on meetings 5 days a week. I saved enough money to eventually buy a home with my wife and then a year later, COVID-19 hits the US and shut everything down. That’s when my wood working hobby was born. I don’t have any sponsorships, paid advertising, donations or anything like that, I just build things from what I can afford.

I was always interested in being able to build something with my hands, something that is not digital and doesn’t require a monitor or a screen to see like a website. I wanted to make tangible things that has function and lasts for a long time. Watching home renovation and house flipping shows satisfied that need for a while but that only helped stoke the flames of my own curiosity until I finally took a leap when I asked, why not me?

Where I grew up, woodworking classes were a thing of the past, a myth that I saw only on TV. Those classes didn’t exist in the schools that I attended as a kid. Lego was the closest thing I had to any DIY experience, my parents didn’t buy me that other one, I think it’s called K’nex. There’s a whole generation of adults out there who grew up just like me who didn’t get a chance to learn how to build things properly so maybe that could be what this site is all about. I want to document things I make or fix and show people who are interested in learning or getting started that you can still do it. Don’t let lack of training stop you from exploring on your own. Don’t fear the unknown but be safe and do approach with caution. We are all smart and capable and more than ever, we have a lot of info available to us through technology.

Disclaimer: If you do attempt to DIY, I cannot be responsible for your safety. Please always follow safe practices outlined in instruction manuals that came with the tools you are using. Woodworking is a thousand times more fun when you get to keep your fingers.
